The Melbourne International Shooting Club offers both smallbore rifle and pistol shooting at 10m (indoors), 25m and 50m. Formed in 1955, MISC is the current training venue for many of our national rifle, pistol and modern pentathlon team members. We provide an extensive calendar of events, with a range of shooting activities that caters for all levels - from beginners to international class shooters. Coaching sessions are also conducted at various times at no cost to members.
Melbourne International now has a facebook page. You can visit the link by clicking here to see recent club events, pictures / videos.
The MISC annual pistol novice shoot is scheduled for Saturday December 7. This year it's open for all new members that have joined the club in the last 24 months. We will be competing in 10m air pistol, 25m pistol (sport pistol) and 25m standard pistol.
The format of the event is that you compete in a match of your choice (subject to availability of club guns and range capacity) and at your VAPA grade. The overall winner will be determined by calculating the off pistol score as a percentage of the relevant grade break score.
For example, if you compete in air pistol as a D grade athlete and score 442 your Novice Shoot score will be 88% (grade break score is 500).
To assist in planning your tactics for this event you may want take a look at the current grading scores available here:http://www.pistol.org.au/events/grade-break. For men choosing to compete in 25m sport pistol the grade brake scores for 25m centre fire pistol will be used.
My crystal ball is telling me it's going to be a great event with glorious weather and an opportunity to mingle and brag about your score!
Please also keep your eyes open for possible other club activities on the same day.
Just a friendly reminder for our new members to attend the novice shoot on Saturday. Please be at the range before 1pm for event registration, club gun checkout from the canteen if required and a quick match briefing. I intend to start the events at 1:30pm sharp.
ISSF rules applies as much as possible but I will NOT require AP athletes to report 30 min before the start time. Now is the time to think about what event you should compete in..:-)
Please note that a first come first served policy applies if you intend to use a club gun and you can only compete in an event using a firearms type you have been signed off for. The program has also been extended to include the 25m Centre Fire event. See you on Saturday.
